Easy & Fun St Patrick’s Day Decor Ideas to DIY
1. Pots of gold
When you think of St. Patrick’s Day, one of the most common things you associate with the holiday are pots of gold. So what better thing to have as a fun piece of decor than your own DIY pot of gold? There are plenty of different ways to go about it, but one of the most simple ones is to paint any small plant pot with green metallic paint.
To finish it up, you can add some “gold” to your pot by either getting fake gold coins or chocolates wrapped in gold foil! An easy way to add the chocolate is to grab the gold Hershey’s Kisses, but just remember that they’re usually the ones with almonds in them.
2. Flower arrangement
Another great DIY decor idea to get into the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day is to create your own flower arrangement using all of the items that represent St. Patrick’s Day. Like any DIY project, there are so many ways to go about creating an arrangement, but we’ll give you one of the more popular AND easy examples. Grab a clear vase. Size is totally up to you.
You’re going to add some green M&Ms or plastic green rocks to your vase, enough that you can easily stick in your flowers and other items. White flowers usually work best with all the green, as well as some gold accents. Feel free to add some fun pieces, such as shamrock picks. The important thing is that you get creative and add whatever works with your style!
3. String garland
Garland is another great but simple way to add some more decor for St. Patrick’s Day. And regardless if you’re a super DIYer or a beginner, this is another easy DIY project. You can take any symbol that you want and make it out of construction paper. It could be four-leaf clovers or it could be horseshoes. Again, pick your favorite item!
You can paint them with green and gold metallic paint. You could even alternate on the colors to give you more of a color pattern. Then you need to punch a hole in each of the paper items and just string them onto whatever size string or yarn that you have. You can easily hang this up anywhere!
4. Centerpieces
Centerpieces are the perfect DIY decor for almost any holiday, including St. Patrick’s Day! This is another item in which you can tap into your creativity. There are so many different ways to go about building a centerpiece for this holiday, but we’ll give you one of the most popular examples.
You’re going to start with a leprechaun hat. This can either be bought or created with construction paper, although the premade ones are usually a little sturdier. Under the hat, you can use any kind of floral foam. You’ll create little holes on top of the hat, and that’s where you will stick all of your items into.
Whatever you want to include, you can either purchase them to already be on sticks, like the shamrock picks above, or you can glue whatever you want onto green pipe cleaners to place them. From flowers to shamrocks and more, you can absolutely find what you need at your local crafts store, like Michael’s.
5. Bags of gold
Another super easy DIY decor piece of St. Patrick’s Day is creating your own bags of gold! If you want to avoid getting too messy with the paint for pots of gold, this is another great option to choose. Just grab some small burlap sacks and add some four-leaf clovers or dollar signs to either side of them. You can put fake “gold” in there or whatever you want, really.
One of the best things about these is that you absolutely use them to hide around the house for an activity for your kids. Think hunting Easter eggs, but instead you’re trying to find the bags of gold a leprechaun has hidden around the house!
6. Leprechaun mason jars
These are perfect for someone who has some mason jars laying around that need to be used! Another great DIY St. Patrick’s Day decor idea is turning those mason jars into little leprechaun hats. All you need is some green paint and construction paper.
You can use these jars for whatever you want. You can use them as a candy jar, filled with chocolate “gold” or you can even use them as a functional piece of decor by adding some flowers or plants to it.
7. Rainbow with a pot of gold
If there’s one tale that we all like to tell about St. Patrick’s Day it’s trying to find a rainbow because there’s sure to be a pot of gold at the end of it. Even though we grew up and realized that, unfortunately, it was not true, we can still have fun making our own.
Grab some pool noodles of all the colors of the rainbow, some gold plastic plates, and black and white construction paper. Get some tape or any adhesive that’s safe for walls and you can create your own personal pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
This might be a little larger than life and requires a little more space than usual. If you don’t have the space to utilize a whole wall, then feel free to make it on a smaller scale by swapping out the pool noodles for pipe cleaners and the plates for small gold coins!
