When you think of decorating your home, the walls of the kitchen walls are not necessarily the first place you think of, which makes total sense. Most homes don’t have a large amount of wall space for the kitchen in the first place and no one likes a cluttered kitchen.
Even if you don’t have a large amount of space on your kitchen walls, it doesn’t mean that you can’t add a little bit of wall decor. Below are a lot of great ideas on how you can personalize your own space regardless of how much room you have!
This blog post is all about kitchen decor wall art.
Must-Have Kitchen Decor Wall Art
1. Fruit-related
If you’re looking for a piece of art to hang in your kitchen, look no further than something that is very on brand: fruit-related. This is probably one of the most popular ideas and you can go many different directions with this. You could go with the typical painting of fruit, or hanging a plate with fruit on it. Some people even love to go a more cartoonish route when they have kids, which is also a super cute option and maybe even a way to get your kids excited about eating different kinds of fruit. Below I have a cheaper version of some fruit artwork and then a really cute website that has a lot of fruit art prints.
2. Themed artwork
If you’re not into the fruit idea, there are still plenty of cute themes out there that you can draw inspiration from for your own kitchen. One of the cutest themes out there right now that’s super popular is “La Dolce Vita” aka the “the Sweet Life” in Italian. This takes inspiration from Italian culture and allows you to bring a little of the Italian vibe into your own home. There’s plenty of ways to use this theme for your wall decor, like in the picture above. There are so many great places to get this kind of decor on theme. Below I have linked a few ideas for you.
3. Hang a special family recipe
Hanging a family recipe is another way to add a personal touch to your kitchen wall decor without breaking the bank. Do you have a special recipe from your grandmother or even another older relative? If family recipes are not your thing, maybe there’s a recipe out there that’s important to you for other reasons! This idea is super cute as well as helpful. If you don’t have this recipe memorized, it’s also a great way to not have to turn pages or look at your phone with messy hands while you’re trying to make it. I can’t be the only person who gets annoyed when their hands are dirty and my phone screen goes dark!
4. Add a chalkboard and have family and visitors sign
Adding a chalkboard to your kitchen wall is a great idea if you love personalized decor – or even functional decor. This can be used as a to-do list or somewhere you can reminders to for the family! You can also have your family members that live in the house and even guests that come over sign their name as well as adding a small piece of their own artwork. This is a cute option, especially if you just recently moved in and have a lot of visitors! Below is a really great budget option as it is a wall decal instead of a full chalkboard.
5. Cute, home goods signage
Although there are a lot of different, trendy ideas out there for wall decor right now, one that will always be popular with a specific generation is the cutesy signage that you can get from your own local home goods store. I know you know the type! Those signs that say “Home is where the heart is”, etc. It get a bad rep from the younger generations, but if that’s what you love having in your kitchen, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. If they aren’t paying your bills, then get what makes your kitchen feel like home! Below I have a few options for you, but feel free to also utilize your local home goods store!
6. Hang a picture of your favorite condiment
Listen, I know this sounds funny or maybe it reminds you of a frat brother’s house, but this is such a creative way to add wall art to your own space in the kitchen! It doesn’t necessarily have to be a picture, in fact, drawings or even paintings of condiments are great ways to add a personal touch yet have it be a little classier than just a picture of the ketchup bottle in your refrigerator that you took with your phone. Personally, as a native Marylander, I love a good piece of Old Bay-related decor. If you know anything about Maryland, you know we’re obsessed with it! Most of your options are going to come from Etsy.
7. Clocks
There is nothing better than a good piece of functional decor, like a beautiful clock. With the rise in popularity of digital clocks and our personal phones, analog clocks don’t really get used as an actual method of telling time. Analog clocks are now more looked at as a statement piece in your home, which there’s nothing wrong with! Oversized analog clocks are super popular these days and would still make a great addition to your kitchen space. Below are two options that I think would work beautifully!
8. Vintage signs
This is an idea that’s perfect for you if you love that old-timey diner vibe for your kitchen. A good rusty-looking (but not actually rusty) sign or even a neon light would go great in this theme! Choose whatever sign fits best for your own style. The signs above are another great idea to give that 70’s diner vibe as well as even an old Coca-Cola sign – whatever brings you back and fills you with nostalgia. Below are some ideas that are similar to the photo above.
9. Reuse a piece from your kitchen
Reusing a piece from your kitchen as wall decor is an easy, inexpensive option. A lot of people have a personalized piece that they have forgotten about, especially if they’ve been married or if they recently moved into their first home together. One of the most common gifts that you see is the personalized cutting board with either the couple’s name or the address of their new home. It’s definitely a super cute gift idea and can also act as a piece of functional decor for your kitchen!
10. Hang a series of herbs or spices
This may sound a little silly, but once you see some of the decor pieces out there for this idea, it makes a lot of sense! I don’t mean hang actual herbs or spices, but pictures or cartoon-esque pictures of them. It’s a super cute way to add a little bit of a homey touch to your kitchen. This goes in the same theme as fruit, a lot of people either love it or hate it. Below are two very nice options if this is your vibe.
11. Plates
If hanging paintings or drawings aren’t your thing, maybe you would rather go the plate route! Do you have a special piece of china from your grandmother or even a piece that’s just important to you? It could even be something homemade, whatever you think fits best in your own space. If you have the space to do so, maybe you would even try a plate wall, with multiple, differently sized plates. This is much like a gallery wall, only with plates. From personal experience, I wouldn’t recommend it if you have children that like to play ball in the house, though!
12. Backsplash
If you have the space for it, adding a nice backsplash in your kitchen is another great way to add some style to your kitchen space. There are endless options for whatever you want your vibe or theme to be. Backsplash tiles can also be quite expensive, so if you want a less expensive way, I would recommend peel-and-stick tiles for your backsplash. This is a perfect option if you are a renter as well, or if you just get tired of patterns easily. Below is a search link that will give you so many great options.
13. Spice rack
Adding a spice rack to your wall instead of taking up space in one of your drawers is great way to maximize the space in your kitchen while also adding a piece of functional decor. You definitely take up less space if you use a shelf for your spice rack rather than putting them in a drawer. This way you can also easily grab whatever you need from the rack while cooking. It’s a win-win situation. You just need to make sure that you buy something sturdy enough to keep all your spices adhered to the wall. Below, I gave you two good options for these.
14. Calendar
We have yet another piece of functional decor on the list – a nice calendar. Every household should definitely have a calendar somewhere in their home. It doesn’t always have to be in the kitchen, but it’s very helpful when it’s in an area of the house that everyone goes to. Calendars can be boring, but they don’t have to be! You can get a calendar that goes with your theme, or even create and draw your own calendar that goes with your vibe. Some people like doing that every month as a way to decompress. Choose whatever works best for your kitchen and lifestyle.
15. A large mirror
Having a mirror in the kitchen seems kind of odd, but there’s a lot of cons to having it in that space. One, of course, it’s a beautiful mirror is always a great decor piece. Secondly, this is usually the last spot in your home you’re at before you run out the door at the beginning of the day. You and the other members of your family can always use this as a quick check before they leave the home that they’re ready to go! A third reason could even be for the moms out there. Maybe you’re trying to cook and get the kids to work on homework at the same time. Now you can actually have eyes on the back of your head with a nice mirror in the kitchen. Below, I linked a very similar option to the one in the photo above.
16. Paintings
If none of the other options appeal to you, maybe you could just keep it simple with the artwork and go with some reliable paintings or drawings that you like. Instead of a plate wall, like I mentioned above, maybe you could add a small gallery wall. Sticking with an overall theme or color scheme is always a good rule to use when adding artwork as well. There are so many great options to grab a painting from, but if you have anywhere you would like to go personally, I always suggest Etsy to support small businesses or artists.
17. Make your own!
A DIY project is always appreciated around here, especially if you’re looking to add some kitchen wall decor on a smaller budget. Go ahead and buy those cheaper frames from Amazon or reuse ones that you might already have. If you have frames, but you were looking for a different color, you could always spray paint them whatever color you want! The options for DIY projects for kitchen wall art are endless, but even if you’re not an artist, you could also just print out one of your favorite quotes or sayings on some nicer paper and you’re good to go! Remember that you never have to break the bank to add a little bit of your own personality to your home. Below is a cute article on DIY stuff for your own kitchen!
