Budget-Friendly Halloween Home Decor Ideas
1. Check your local discount stores
First things first, I would be remiss to mention the absolute steals you can find at your local discount stores. Some of the best deals on any kind of holiday decor will be at stores like Ross for Less or Dollar General. These are the places that don’t even have an online store to purchase from.
From kitchenware to outdoor decor, you will absolutely find something at these stores that are very similar to the more expensive sites. If you want a good idea of what kind of decor you could get, I would search YouTube for some videos on peoples’ Halloween hauls from these stores. You will definitely find one that’s local to you.
2. Lighting
One of cheapest and easiest ways to bring some Halloween vibes to your home is some lighting. You can absolutely find a string of purple and/or orange lights for under $20, maybe even under $15. You can add these string lights anywhere and everywhere in your home. You can use these both inside and outside on railings, plants, and more. Outline your doorways with them or used them to illuminate a path or hallway.
3. Cobwebs
When it comes to decor that really helps you stretch your dollar, fake cobwebs is one of the best options. This goes so far without breaking the bank. A bag of fake cobwebs typically goes for less than $10. Just like a string of lights, fake cobwebs are not only cheap but very versatile.
You can add it to almost anywhere inside and outside your home. It’s one of the easiest ways to turn an area or space of your home into a spooky, haunted house. People love to use it to cover places or areas in their house where they don’t have any other Halloween decor, such as their family photos or other furniture pieces.
4. Spiders
While we’re talking about cobwebs, let’s add another cheap option that goes perfect with fake cobwebs: spiders! You can honestly get some fake little spiders anywhere, especially at the discount stores that were talked about above.
You can also find a really good deal on small, plastic spiders on Amazon right here. Additionally, feel free to go for larger spiders as they are more popular, but if you’re watching your bank account, these small ones are the best option!
5. Print your own art
This is a great idea for those who want to add a little bit of spooky vibes to their space who enjoy art. Depending on your style, you can get a few prints for under $15 online. Don’t get me wrong, there are some gorgeous art pieces out there that are worth every penny, but if we’re looking after your wallet, some prints on Amazon or Etsy will do just fine!
You can print some of these off at your local Walmart or CVS for pretty cheaply. There are also great online deals from Costco if you happen to be a member, and these are quality prints. Just remember that if you’re printing artwork like this, choose the matte finish if available. There’s less glare and looks a little higher end.
6. Caution tape
Another quick and cheap option for Halloween decor would definitely be caution tape. There are multiple different versions of this kind of tape, including options that say “Do not enter” or “Enter at own risk”. Regardless of which one you pick, most of them are typically under $8. You can also add caution tape just about anywhere, from your front door area to different doorways and areas throughout your house.
7. Bats
Bat decals are a great way to get into the Halloween spirit without spending too much money. They are easily put onto any wall and then just as easy to remove, as long as you do it the proper way. Do not just rip them off your wall. To remove them, you should use a heat source, like a hair dryer, to soften up the adhesive.
These decals are usually reusable, but if you want to go even cheaper, you could even make these bats out of black construction paper. This doesn’t work quite as well as the decals, but it could be a fun project for little kids.
8. Window silhouette
Speaking of construction paper, you can utilize it for more than just making paper bats for your walls. One super fun and cheap idea is to use black construction paper to make window silhouettes. That’s when you cut out spooky shapes and put them in your window, so it appears from the outside that something creepy is watching you from the window. You can also make it a little more kid-friendly by cutting out shapes like pumpkins and skulls.
9. Flameless candles
Another cheap yet great option for Halloween decor are flameless candles. These are perfect to get those spooky yet cozy vibes going in your home. These can definitely range in price, depending on how fancy you want to get. But you can grab some candles under $20 and they work just as well as the expensive options. These are a safer option to add to your decor, whether it be for your jack-o-lanterns outside or on your windowsills.
10. Mesh black netting
When you hear the word netting, you might not understand exactly what piece of decor I’m referring to, but I promise that as soon as you Google it, you will know. This is another perfect cheap option to add some spooky vibes to almost any area in your house. You can easily get it for cheap on Amazon.
Popular places to add this netting is on top of tables, mantles, or any cabinets that you may have. Another fun thing to do with this netting is to combine it with other pieces of decor that we’ve referenced on this list. You could add some small spiders and fake cobwebs to create a very spooky setup.
11. Sheets
Let’s go back to old reliable: some white sheets. Even though this is one of the more simple, almost cheesy decor options on this list, you can’t argue with it. You could use sheets that you may already have or pick up some for cheap at your local discount store. Combine it with some fake cobwebs and little spiders and you got yourself a perfect spooky combination.
12. Mask wall
Do you want a way to really up the creepy factor with your Halloween decor? Grab some of those cheap white masks and attach them to the wall with some double-sided tape or use some pushpins where you can “hang” the mask.
There is something super unnerving about these plain masks that are sure to up the spookiness for spooky season. If you plan on having any Halloween parties, a wall of these are perfect for that haunted house vibe that you’ll probably be going for.
13. Missing or lost posters
Another fun wall decor idea that might be a little less creepy is creating your own missing or lost posters. This is a great idea, especially if you’re having a Halloween party because you could put your guests as the “missing people”. You could absolutely make these more scary if you want to, but they could also be a kid-friendly project that you could do with them. A good suggestion is using Canva to create your own and print it at home or at your local Walmart or CVS.
14. Fake dead bodies
This decor piece might sound a little more scary than it really is. Depending on how creepy you want your decor to be, this is another cheap and easy idea. All you need are some empty jugs, bottles, and cans, duct tape, and black trash bags. This is one of my favorites because almost all the items you can find in your own home. But if you want to get a little more creative, you could combine other decor like the caution tape from above as well.
15. DIY ceramic pumpkins
We saved old reliable for last. You can’t have a list on some of the best budget-friendly Halloween home decor without mentioning pumpkins. Although there are plenty of cheaper options when it comes to pumpkin decor, you can’t deny that some of the expensive options look gorgeous, especially those ceramic pumpkins.
To create your own ceramic pumpkins, all you need are some cheap pumpkins from your local home goods store, some acrylic paint, and baking soda. Mixing your paint with baking soda will help give it a more a textured, matte, and almost ceramic-like finish. You could easily create a few pumpkins for the price of one real ceramic one.
