Renter-Friendly Coffee Bar Ideas
1. Buy a small coffee machine
This is a great way to make one of the most important parts of your coffee bar renter-friendly. Typically, when you’re renting, you have a smaller space, especially when it comes to the kitchen. A smaller coffee machine takes up less space as well as being easier to move when you need to move it.
2. Use a cart or a cabinet
Another way to maximize your space in your (more than likely) smaller area, while staying renter-friendly, is by using a bar cart or a cabinet. Both of these options are great because of the multiple levels and shelving they typically provide.
All of this surface area will hopefully prevent you from having to adhere anything to the wall that could possibly damage it. You can also easily move a cart around and move it to an optimal area while making coffee. This can prevent any unwanted spills or stains on walls or carpets.
3. Use your countertop
If you’re lucky enough to spare the counter space, then we recommend using your countertop as your coffee bar. And if you’re even luckier, you’ll have some storage space in drawers near your coffee bar to utilize for small items. This way, you don’t have to put up any shelving that might damage your walls. Just make sure that you have an electrical outlet near wherever you’re adding your coffee machine, if you need it.

4. Take over one of your shelves
This is another great option for those who rent. If you have a pantry with shelves or something similar, then just use one of those as the foundation for your coffee bar. Again, this takes away any possible damage that you might incur if you need to add your own shelves.
5. Put only light items on any floating shelves
If you absolutely need to use shelving, you need to be strategic with it. You need to cause the least amount of damage to your wall, which means you can’t install any heavy shelving. This, in turn, means that you should really try to only add smaller items to the shelves, like coffee accessories. This way, you can ensure that they won’t fall and take part of the wall down with them.
6. Add a small rug
We’re all about decor that plays double duty and this is no exception. Grab a cute, small rug that will allow you to personalize your coffee bar, as well as protect your floor from any unwanted stains.
For some reason, every apartment I’ve ever lived in loves a good white or beige carpet, which is perfect for staining. Based on experience, we recommend a small rug that fits nicely near any splash zones.
7. Grab organization pieces (that don’t belong on a wall)
There are a lot of great organization items that are fixed to the walls. As we’re trying our best to not use anything that will damage your wall, grab yourself an organization piece that can sit nicely alongside your machine.
Not all rented spaces are small, but just in case yours happens to be, this is also a great tip. Having something to organize all your coffee decor makes your space look cleaner and more put together.
8. Use command hooks
If you want to hang very small, light items on the wall, such as mugs, command hooks will be your best bet. These are designed to be used on smooth surfaces, like your wall. BUT the biggest thing we want to point out is that you need to follow instructions with these.
You can absolutely take off a chunk of your wall if you don’t. This means when you’re removing them, you need to pull the tab directly downwards keeping it parallel to the wall. Do it slowly and have patience.
9. Put up peel-and-stick tile or wallpaper
One of our favorite ideas for renter-friendly coffee bars is adding some peel-and-stick to your space. The best place to add this is right in back of your coffee machine so you won’t stain the wall with any accidental splashes. This is great for those whose coffee machine is pressed up against a wall.
Our tip is to lay down a layer of contact paper first. That way the tiles or wallpaper will stick to the contact paper and not directly to the wall. This gives you an extra layer of protection. Peel-and-stick is a perfect way to personalize a space that’s not technically yours.
10. Use Mixtiles or something similar for art
If you would love to add some art or pictures to your coffee bar, we suggest going with something that won’t leave holes in your walls. The toothpaste special doesn’t work like it did in college. Mixtiles is a great example of an item that you can hang easily on the wall with sticky adhesive and magnets.
Honestly, this is way easier than drilling or nailing something into the wall because you can adjust it in seconds.
