How To Create A Coffee Bar In A Living Room Corner
1. Figure out what you want
There’s so many different ways you can create a coffee bar, but this will specifically be in your living room corner. Do you want a very simple, small area to drink your coffee, or are you more into a full-service coffee bar? You should figure this out before you start your process. This will absolutely depend on how much space is available to you, of course.
2. Find your electrical outlet
Even though it may seem like common sense, I promise you that a lot of people forget about this step. There are ways to make coffee without electricity, like with a French press. But most people want a coffee machine that can be easily plugged into a nearby outlet. If you’re one of these people, don’t forget to confirm which outlets you’ll be using.
3. Choose what you want to keep your coffee machine in or on
There are so many ideas that can work with different areas: a corner cabinet, rolling cart, small table, or even just some floating shelves. This is another thing that will depend on the amount of space available to you.
If you have more space, a corner cabinet or rolling cart are both great options, especially if you want drawers and shelves to house a fully stocked coffee bar.
If you’re struggling for space, a small table or even some floating shelves can also work well. Just ensure that if you’re using shelves, you need some wall-mounted, sturdy shelves. No one wants their coffee machine to drop on the floor, especially if it’s an expensive one.
4. Pick your coffee machine
If you don’t already have a coffee machine, then choosing which one to get it is definitely an important choice. It all depends on your preferences. Some people are happy with a simple Nespresso or Keurig and others prefer more specialized espresso machines. Whatever your style, make sure you take the time to look at all your options.
5. Grab your favorite coffee and flavors
When you have all the basic items ready to go, it’s time to choose some coffee K-cups, beans, or grounds, as well as the different things that go along with it. This is one of the fun parts. You can get creative and experiment! There are endless amounts of syrups, sugars, and more items you could add to your coffee to make it the perfect cup just for you. I would suggest that you could look up some fun recipes online to get some inspiration.
6. Choose your coffee cups, mugs, and other containers
I’m positive that you already have a few mugs or containers for your own perfect cup of coffee, but let’s just use this as an excuse to buy some more. Regardless of what kind of coffee you enjoy, a good, solid mug or cup is essential in crafting your coffee.
Hot or iced, you’ll need something that will work with whatever you prefer. For hot drinks I will stand by this latte glass from Crate & Barrel until the end. Even though it is expensive, it’s truly the only mug I use. The insulation on it is magical for an open cup.
For iced drinks, who doesn’t love a good see-through glass with the perfect straw. If you don’t love the sound of ice cubes swirling around when you mix, do you even like iced coffee?
7. Decide about seating choices
When creating your coffee corner in your living room, you should consider seating. Of course, it doesn’t have to be extensive. What you’re able to do depends on the space that you can work with. Do you want to rearrange your space to better fit your coffee corner? Maybe you have the ability to add a super cozy sofa chair, or do you want to keep everything the same? Whatever you want, put some thought into it!
8. Add some mood lighting
Now that you’ve got your coffee corner mostly set up, let’s think about lighting. If we’re sticking with the cozy vibes, we definitely want to aim for softer lighting. Dimmable lighting is the best, but if that’s not possible, you can pick up some under-shelf LED strips for that “hidden” lighting effect that works perfectly. When you’re looking at the specifics of lighting, we would recommend getting something that refers to 2700K-3000LK or anything that refers to “warm lighting”. The last thing you want is bright, medical office lights when you’re trying to enjoy your coffee in the morning.
9. Pick your decor
Last but definitely not least, let’s decorate your cozy corner! Depending on what fits your cozy vibe, there’s plenty of ways to add personal touches that will make this corner feel like your own little piece of paradise in your living room.
Are you a plant person? Then add some greenery to your space! Plants are a great idea, as opposed to flowers or something with a strong scent. One of the most relaxing parts about a coffee corner is the delicious smell of coffee, and we don’t want anything competing with that.
Another great idea is adding some wallpaper or tiles specifically right in your coffee corner. This will help separate your coffee corner from the rest of your living room without putting up any walls. Peel-and-stick options are always a great choice, especially for renters or people who change their mind a lot.
Whatever you choose, the most important thing is that it helps you create the cozy, little coffee bar of your dreams.
