Your Perfect Coffee Bar in a Small Apartment (Step-by-Step Guide)
Step 1: Figure out where
The first thing you need to figure out exactly where you want this coffee bar to be at. You don’t want to invest any money into it if you don’t know where it’s going and how much space you have to work with. Depending on the size of your apartment, popular places are on countertops, in corners, or anywhere you have an area for a small cabinet or table.
Step 2: Measure your space
Once you determine where in your apartment that your coffee bar will be going, you should absolutely measure the space. You want to make sure you understand all of the dimensions of your area before you buy anything. If you don’t have a measuring tape, there’s a measuring app on the iPhone. Just go ahead and search “measure” in your phone, and it will pop up for you!
Step 3: If not on an existing counter or table, find your table or cabinet
Depending on the size of your apartment, you have a few options on where to place your coffee bar. If you have the space to add another table or cabinet, then we encourage you to do so. Buying a cart that is multi-functional is definitely suggested! A cart with storage, such as drawers or shelves is incredibly helpful, especially if it’s a more slender cart. That way, you can add any of your leftover items or supplies that don’t necessarily fit next to your coffee setup.
Step 4: If no existing coffee machine, find the best one for your space
Most of you reading this might already have your coffee machine, and that’s great! But if you don’t have one yet, or if you’re looking for a new one, that’s okay, too. We sound like a broken record, but the size of your coffee truly depends on the size of your space and what kind of coffee you enjoy.
For instance, do you typically drink regular coffee or do you prefer espresso-based drinks? This is important because if you’re going through all this to make your own coffee at home to enjoy, it needs to be what you actually enjoy and use!
Step 5: Ensure you have your coffee necessities (grinder, tamper, etc)
Now that you have your major item, your coffee machine, you need to ensure that you have everything else that you need that’s not included either in or on your machine.
For example, if you buy a coffee machine that requires grounds, but you like to buy coffee beans, you should make sure you get a coffee grinder and a tamper. Other items you may need to keep in mind, depending on the machine and how you like your coffee, are a tamping mat, reusable filters, a milk frother, and more.
Step 6: Ensure you have something to hold coffee (mugs, cups)
You’ve gathered the items that you need to make the coffee, now you need to make sure you have all the proper drinkware for it. This is also another excuse to grab some cute mugs or coffee cups. (It’s okay, we all do it).
Depending on your decor, you could stick to a theme with some cute rustic mugs or grab some of the mugs that we recommend. These are great because even though they’re open mugs, the coffee stays hotter longer than other similar mugs. The price is worth it!
Step 7: Buy coffee, syrups, and sugars
This may be the most important step: time to buy your ingredients for your favorite coffee! Depending on what type your coffee takes: beans, grounds or K-cups, there are plenty of different options to choose from. As well as different types of sugars and syrups.
The fun part is this is where you can experiment and find your own favorite cup of coffee. From brown sugar to caramel syrup, there are endless options. Recommendations from online, especially TikTok, are a great place to start.
Step 8: Install/buy organization pieces
Now that you have the most important items, it’s time to deck out your coffee corner. Some items that are almost a necessity are organizational pieces, such as shelves, trays, and other things to keep all of your items neat and organized.
For smaller spaces, especially if you’re only using a corner or a counter-top area, wall-mount shelves or floating trays are great. Other helpful pieces include K-cup storage drawers, coffee bins, and baskets.
Step 9: Install/buy decor
Any coffee bar wouldn’t be complete without some decor. Depending on your vibe, you could add florals, greenery, or even go for the vintage vibe. Super cute ideas include coffee bar signs or even framed coffee bags.
For example, have you ever seen those cloth bags? If you have a unique coffee you buy from another country, that could be fun to add in there as well!
Step 10: Enjoy!
Once you have everything set up and ready to go, it’s now the best part of the process: enjoying your coffee bar in the comfort of your own apartment!
