It’s never too early to prepare for a holiday, especially one like the Fourth of July. Decor for this holiday is all about having a bold, patriotic flair with the traditional color scheme of red, white, and blue.
Although there are some usual decor pieces that you always want to grab, there are definitely a lot of great ideas out there that are way more creative than just hanging the American flag. Take a look through this blog post and write down any Fourth of July decor ideas that you like!
This blog post is all about Fourth of July decor ideas.
Creative Fourth of July Decor Ideas
1. Table decor
One of the best things about table decor for the Fourth of July is the versatility within a seemingly typical color scheme. You don’t have to stick with your typical equal amounts of each color (red, white, and blue). As you see in the above photo, they focused on different shades of blue and added a small American flag to the plate as the perfect accent piece. Plus, it’s also a great way to make sure that everyone at your home has their own flag for the celebrations! Not only does it bring different shades of blue, but it also uses some beautiful patterns as well. This shows that you don’t have to shy away from adding varying patterns with quite a bold decor piece like the flag.

2. Glass containers
Premade containers, like the ones you get at your local home goods stores, aren’t everyone’s favorite these days, but if Rae Dunn is your style, they are perfect for you! The combination of jars, stars, and other pieces in the photo above show that these are a great option to dress up any boring cabinet that you may have in your home. You don’t have to keep them all on display, though. As you look through all the items, you can see that a lot of these are what we call functional pieces of decor, like the treat jars and mugs. If this is something you think you may like, make sure to be careful on where you place these because they can be awfully heavy pieces.
3. Outside Decor
You can’t think about the Fourth of July, without thinking about that outdoors picnic that you’re probably either planning or attending. And because an outdoor picnic is such a staple for this holiday, you always need some outdoor decor to go along with it. As you see in the above picture, they have plenty of American flag decor throughout, which is always a must. But you can also see that you don’t have to have every single piece of decor have the flag on it. You can definitely keep the color scheme of red, white, and blue with different patterns. For example, you can see in the photo that they bought some cute polka dot red and white cups and some patterned blue and white jars. They go perfectly with the theme, even though they’re not inherently Fourth of July themed.
4. Front Porch Decor
Nothing is more homey than a nicely decorated front porch. It’s even better when it’s decorated for a holiday, like the Fourth of July. Even though the previous photos showcase more elaborate displays, the photo above shows that sometimes simple is even better. Two beautiful rocking chairs with red patterned pillows pair nicely with a plant with red flowers. Top it off with a gorgeous vase with small American flags in it, you have yourself an adorable and inviting front porch. You see that you don’t need all three colors in every piece of your decor to properly celebrate the Fourth of July.
5. DIY Crafts
If you love decorating for holidays like the Fourth of July, but don’t want to break the bank, a DIY craft might be just for you! The above photo shows a really fun, creative craft that would be perfect for someone who loves to craft. A DIY project would also be a great activity for the kids! There are also much easier DIY crafts than the one above if you want to work with kids, but if you want to try your hand at the flag above, just click on the picture above.
6. Wreaths
A lot of people really only think about wreaths around Christmas Time, but they can serve as a great decoration for any holiday! Take a look at the photo above, and you can see just how stunning a wreath can be for Fourth of July decor. They definitely range in shape, size, and color. You can choose a wreath similar to the one above, one that’s more bold and even has bells attached to it, or you can go with a more simple wreath of red, white, and blue flowers. I added links to two different wreaths below for you to check out, whatever your style may be.
7. Mantel Decor Pieces
Another piece of decor that tends to only get attention around Christmas Time are mantel pieces, and it’s such a waste! It’s such a great spot to decorate for any holiday. There are plenty of different items that would look great on your mantel, including the ribbon garland and the American-themed signs in the photo above. When talking about garland, there are plenty of different options if ribbon isn’t your favorite. There’s also tinsel garlands, if you’re into more bold decor, and mesh garland with cute, little pom poms as well. Below, I’ve linked tinsel and pom pom garland, but if you’re into ribbon garlands, I would suggest looking on Etsy for some stunning homemade pieces!
8. Trays
Trays are becoming a more popular decor item for holidays, especially the Fourth of July. This is a great way to show off your creative skills AND a perfect way to use any of your much smaller pieces of decor. And as you can see in the above photo, not everything on the tray is necessarily related to the Fourth of July. There’s small items such as a small red starfish and a red car. As you can see, this is definitely an idea that won’t break the bank. You can just add two or three pieces that are American-themed and then just add pieces that fit the color scheme of red, white, and blue.
9. Flowers
One of the best ways to decorate for any holiday will always be some gorgeous flowers. You really can’t go wrong with a stunning bouquet that goes with your color scheme. The flowers in the photo above add to the table seamlessly without taking away anything from the decor surrounding it. This photo additionally showcases how well different patterns in the same color can work together. It’s such a simple yet stunning array of different patterns and colors that somehow don’t look busy or overwhelming at all. I would definitely try to go with some fresh flowers, but if you can always go fake as well! If you don’t like any of the online options, check out your local hobby store, like Michael’s, and put together a bouquet yourself.
10. Signs
A decor piece that is always an easy go-to is a premade sign, like the ones in the above photo. You don’t have to just stick with a lot of typical signs you can see at your local home goods store, but if that’s your style then own it! There’s nothing wrong about how you decorate your own home. You also don’t have to stick to just the mantel area if you want to hang signs. You can also get some great signs for your front porch area or even your backyard. Additionally, if you’re looking for some more creative pieces, I would absolutely suggest looking on Etsy for homemade pieces.
11. Pillows
One of the coziest ways to decorate for any holiday are by adding some cute, comfy pillows like in the photo above. You can see that they mixed and matched different patterns but stayed on theme with the color scheme of red, white, and blue. But remember, you don’t need to always have a bunch of patterns or an American flag plastered everywhere to keep with the Fourth of July theme, and that also rings true for pillows. You can always keep on theme with some nice solid colored red, white, and blue pillows.
12. Historical documents and traditions
What better way to celebrate America’s independence day than using sentences and phrases from historical documents or traditions in your decor. This is such a creative way to add small pieces of America’s history throughout your home. In the above photo, you can see that they have the Pledge of Allegiance on a small, wooden sign. This, paired with a few small American flags, is the perfect simple setup for your entryway. Again, you don’t have to be incredibly bold with your decor if you don’t want to. If you can’t find what you like online, make sure you visit Etsy for some more creative ideas!
13. The flag
And last, but certainly not least, the flag will always be the best way to decorate your space for the Fourth of July. You don’t have to just have one flag hanging, though. As you can see in the picture above, you can get creative with how you show off your flag! Unfortunately, a similar frame was pretty hard to find in your typical online stores. I would suggest either Etsy or even a DIY project. Not only does it serve as the best decor, but more importantly it’s a reminder of how lucky we are that we live in a country where we are free due to the sacrifices of the people who came before us.
