Are you looking for tips on how to accessorize a bathroom? This post will give you some great ideas on how to refresh your bathroom in some really cute ways.
When it comes to bathrooms, there are two things that really help upgrade your space. The first one is cleanliness, which is clearly much easier said than done, especially after getting ready in the morning. If you can keep your bathroom clean after a quick GRWM while running late, then you are much better than me.
The second is what we will be discussing in this post: accessories! The way you accessorize your bathroom can easily influence the vibe of your space. In this post, I will be giving you tips on how to accessorize a bathroom in a way that will make you want to immediately run to start!
This post is all about how to accessorize a bathroom.
How to Accessorize a Bathroom
1. Personalize your wall art with your pet
I’m starting this list out with my absolute favorite idea for personalized decor for your bathroom: taking a picture of your pet in something bathroom-related and framing it. You can wrap a towel on their head like they’re drying their hair, or maybe even put them in your bathroom robe with a shower cap on. I wish I could take credit for this idea, but I saw it on TikTok weeks ago and I thought it was the cutest idea I’ve ever seen!
2. Use your own camera roll
You definitely don’t have to go purchase expensive art to decorate your bathroom. I’m all for supporting local artists, but maybe that artist can be you! After you get a feeling of what you want the color scheme or vibe of your bathroom to be, go ahead and scroll through your own camera roll. See if you have any existing pictures you would hang up. You would be surprised how good an iPhone’s camera is these days if you get your settings right.
If you look above, I have an example of a photo from my own camera roll. A beach theme is always a good vibe for a bathroom, so scroll through some pics of your favorite vacay and see if you would want to take any from there! There has to be a perfect picture that makes you instantly feel relaxed, just like you’re back at the beach.
3. Print out your favorite quote
Another way to add some wall art to your bathroom is printing out your favorite quote or even just one that makes you laugh. Decor doesn’t always have to be classy and elegant. Sometimes adding a funny saying or cheesy quote is what makes you feel the most at home. Grab a free account on Canva and go to work.
4. Check out your favorite home goods store
I know that some people think the decor from your local home goods stores is cheesy, but if that’s your thing, then go ahead! Don’t pay attention to anyone else. You like what you like and there’s nothing wrong with it. Like I said above, your bathroom should make you feel at home, not your neighbor, not your mother-in-law, and definitely not that random burner account on TikTok! TJ Maxx is my favorite go-to. Depending on your location, it can have the cutest pieces for cheap.
5. Thrift that piece
Thrifting has definitely gotten more popular over the years, but I still consider it a really underrated way of finding decor that won’t bankrupt you. I understand that secondhand and bathroom aren’t two words that typically sound good together, but I swear you will find some treasures at your local Goodwill if you take the time to look.
6. Add some green
One of my favorite ways to upgrade your bathroom decor is by adding some life to it. Small, potted plants are the perfect, fun-sized way to add some decor to your space. You don’t even have to buy real plants, but if you do, make sure it’s a plant that grows well with excessive moisture for obvious reasons. And always make sure that any plant you buy isn’t dangerous to any of your pets! You would be surprised at which ones are considered toxic.
7. Add eucalyptus to your shower
Another plant-related idea is adding eucalyptus to your shower. Not only does it have numerous health benefits, but it smells amazing and has the best calming effect. If you don’t feel like putting leaves together to hang it, a lazy girl hack you can use is just putting the branches in a jar with water in your shower as well. It’s also super important to mention that eucalyptus is toxic if ingested. Be careful if you have small children or pets in the home!
8. Add a candle or two
If you’re going for a more relaxing feel to your bathroom, adding some candles is a great way to do it. There is nothing better than turning the lights down and taking a hot shower with some candles going. You don’t even need real candles to get this vibe either! Fake candles will do the job just as well and it’s much safer AND cheaper. If you’re anything like me, you can go through real candles like crazy, but that fake candle will be around for years.
9. Get a rug
This tip is about safety as much as it is about decor. A nice, small rug will definitely add another layer of decor to your space as well as making it safe for you and others to step in and out of the shower. And don’t choose one of those thin, flimsy rugs that you will slip and bust your butt on when it counts. Buy a rug that is sturdy enough to stay in place for you. Trust me, I know from personal experience and your butt will thank you.
10. Put up some LED lighting
One of the things that I love the most about LED lighting is that even though it’s on the cheaper side, you can absolutely use it in a way that makes your bathroom look expensive. The trick to adding LED lighting is adding it in places that you can’t see the strips. My favorite location is under or on top of your mirror AND under the cabinets of your sink (if you have them).
11. Grab a basket
A woven basket or something similar can double as decor and an organization piece for you. I just bought a cute basket myself to use because I was tired of having nowhere to put my used towels and washcloths after I showered. This is a cute way to either hide your used towels or you can even use it as a laundry basket.
As you can see above, that’s exactly what I do. I won’t lie, mine does not look the most aesthetic, but it’s definitely better than looking at all my dirty clothes and used washcloths. I would recommend something like this for any bathroom!
12. Add floating shelves
Floating shelves are a decor piece that can honestly work well anywhere in a house, especially in your bathroom. These are great for smaller bathrooms, where you can’t really spare the room for anything larger. These also double as organization pieces where you can put smaller toiletries like cotton balls or q-tips. These also don’t have to be super expensive! If the wooden ones are a bit out of your price range, you can opt for acrylic shelves as well.
13. Trade your containers for reusable ones
You would be surprised at how much more put together your bathroom looks if you use similar, reusable bottles in your bathroom instead of a random mix of all of your original bottles. The process of getting all of your product into these bottles can be a little tedious, but I promise the look is worth it! If you don’t feel like changing all of them, I would suggest at least changing out anything that sits around your sink.
14. Use a tray
A small tray right next to your sink can be the cutest addition to your bathroom, especially in an area where you don’t have a lot of space like a half bathroom. It makes your sink look clean and organized while creating a perfect space for you to add a small plant or candle. If you don’t have room for a tray next to your sink, you could also put it on the back of your toilet as well.
In the picture above, that’s exactly where I put my tray. It’s a perfect place to store extra toilet paper or anything else that you might want to have in arms’ length in the bathroom. Listen, no one wants to be reaching and trying to grab some toilet paper out of the cabinets or somewhere even farther away.
15. Place a ladder shelf over the toilet
I love this decor piece because not only does it add a little more wall art to your bathroom, it also gives you a larger area to utilize for your toiletries so they’re not just sitting on the floor. I don’t know what it is, but I’m not the biggest fan of having too many things sitting on your bathroom floor. Ladder shelves come in different sizes with different builds, so there’s definitely one that works for you.
Those were our fifteen quick tips on how to accessorize a bathroom. As you read, you don’t have to break the bank to add some really cute decor to your space. The most important thing is that however you decorate your bathroom, it only needs to make you happy!
